Solo Exhibition at Pro Arts Gallery + Commons
Oakland, CA
DATE
January 24 – March 7, 2020
"To reach, not the point where one no longer says I, but the point where it is no longer of any importance whether one says I. We are no longer ourselves. Each will know his own. We have been aided, inspired, multiplied. " –A Thousand Plateaus, Deleuze + Guattari
Assemblage and sculpture from Oakland-born artist Kathleen King transforms found materials through arrangement–interlocking, piling, stacking, hanging, tying and leaning. The work draws inspiration from urban surroundings to reference construction sites, encampments, buildings, streets, signage and fences. King explores social states of co-existence, contingency and control, focusing attention on how we make our social environments and, in turn, are made by them.
